Members of Zobel's family who have read his diaries after his death now understand the frustration Zobel must have felt. Zobel had nurtured a dream of building a museum since his childhood. Zobel wanted to promote not only Philippine modernist art but also endeavored to help shape what Benito Legarda called the "Filipino element that is not completely derivative of foreign models."
